Cephalocersus Senilis

The Cephalocersus Senilis is also known as Old Man Cactus. It will grow long spines that look like hair, which is actually grown to help shade the cacti from the bright sun. With this in mind I beaded a family of hairy cacti in bloom. The tall one, the old man, has deep pink flowers on top, the shorter one is the mom with her shorter ring of flowers, and a small juvenile one in front has no flowers yet.

I planted them in a hand thrown Raku pot that I made. The piece is 6 1/2 inches across with the spines and 6 inches tall.
